Government & Regulatory Affairs Overview

WEF engages in appropriate and nimble advocacy on legislative and regulatory issues to improve the scientific and technical foundation for water quality laws and regulations, support the need for continued progress in controlling pollution, protect public health and the health of aquatic ecosystems, and promote sustainable management of water resources.

WEF works closely with its membership to educate Congress on clean water issues impacting their districts and States, and disseminates information on Congressional activities to WEF membership via meetings, webcasts and emails.  WEF also collaborates with other organizations to provide support, or comment on pending legislation affecting the clean water community.

WEF Tracks Regulations That Have a Direct Impact on the Water Sector

The Regulatory Subcommittee of WEF’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC) leads efforts to monitor regulations that often impact WEF members’ activities and how environmental goals related to clean water are met. The Regulatory Subcommittee also provides input on regulatory rulemaking efforts through collaborations between WEF membership and U.S. EPA staff as well as others in the regulatory community.

WEF staff and the Regulatory Subcommittee share regulatory updates and forecasts on pending changes through regular and timely communications with WEF membership.

WEF tracks legislation and regulation that has direct impacts on the water sector and works through the Government Affairs Committee (GAC) to disseminate timely and topical developments at the Federal level to the WEF membership.
