Previously, two studies have reported the persistence of infectious virus in feces without quantification.

More recently, a new study, "Infectious SARS-CoV-2 in Feces of Patient with Severe COVID-19," has quantified infective virus in feces reporting that isolation is more likely from critically ill patients.

This new research does not change the conclusions of the main article.
