May 18, 2018 - At a meeting with WEF and other water sector associations on May 15th, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt announced that the deadline to submit letters of interest for Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loans has been extended to July 31, 2018. Pruitt also sent a letter to governors and heads of territories informing them of this move.

The loan program, created by the 2014 Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) and is accepting its second round of applications, subsidizes loans for large water projects. For example, the agency recently finalized a more than $130 million loan to a water utility in Seattle for a new facility that will treat stormwater as part of the loan program. (Bloomberg 5/15/18)
