Dec. 8, 2017 — On Dec. 7, both the U.S. House and Senate passed a short-term spending bill that will fund the government through Dec. 22nd, which President Trump signed into law on Dec. 8.

A short-term Continuing Resolution or "CR" buys 10 more legislative days for negotiations, however, the deadline to avoid a partial government shutdown is now three days before Christmas.

Ahead of yesterday's vote, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the stopgap measure would "provide us with the time we need to complete discussions on a long-term solution."

However, others, including Armed Services Committee Chair John McCain (R-AZ) said it was "unacceptable" that Congress was passing the stopgap bill.  (The Hill, 12/8/17)

On Nov. 20, WEF and other water sector organizations sent a letter to Congress in support of funding for key issues including clean water and drinking water SRF funding and WIFIA. Read the full press release about this letter.
