On Nov. 27, EPA announced a $614 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loan to the city of San Diego to help finance its Pure Water Project, a new advanced treatment facility which could produce 30 million gallons per day of purified water.

This is the first phase in its multi-year Pure Water Program which will use proven technology to clean non-potable recycled water into safe, high quality drinking water.  This project will also create 480 construction jobs.

On November 1, 2018, the WIFIA program invited 39 projects in 16 states and Washington, D.C., to apply for the second round of WIFIA loans. The selected borrowers will receive WIFIA loans totaling up to $5 billion to help finance over $10 billion in infrastructure investments and create up to 155,000 jobs. The loan amount requests range from $5 million to $617 million with $11 million to $1.3 billion in project infrastructure investment.
