Presentation Handouts

This is a joint event with The Water Research Foundation.

In 2018, WRF received a grant from the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWB) ($1M, D1705002) to fund five projects which were recommended by the SWRCB Expert Panel in their report on the feasibility of developing criteria for DPR. These projects pertain to the control of contaminants, both microbial pathogens and toxic chemicals. The pathogen topics include 1) developing additional information on the concentrations of pathogens present in raw wastewater (under both typical and outbreak conditions), as well as 2) the use of quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) to understand microbial risks and how treatment can be used to control those risks. For chemical risks, WRF is taking on two projects recommended by the SWB expert panel: 1) an evaluation of strategies to define and control peaks of chemical contaminants, and 2) the need to evaluate the feasibility and use of non-targeted analysis to identify unknown contaminants or those more likely to pass through advanced treatment (low molecular weight compounds).

The goal of the webcast is to provide a summary update on the research on the two pathogen projects and the chemical project related to the identification and control of chemical peaks. These projects are underway and expected completion is late 2020 to allow SWB’s Division of Drinking Water to use these research findings to develop regulations for DPR by 2023.

There will be 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) offered for this webcast. Please check with your state accreditation agency to determine if you qualify. The PDH instructions will be sent to all attendees 24 hours after the webcast has ended.
