Provide Your Students the Opportunity to Meet Some of the World's Top Water Professionals!

The application period for InFLOW STEMpath 2023 is Now Open!

The WEF InFLOW STEMpath Program solicits schools/universities to apply to be part of this unique experience. If accepted, university scholars will be participating in a dual virtual program and attending WEFTEC. The program will also include pre-WEFTEC programming to include more of an introduction to the water sector and additional opportunities for scholars to network and even find mentors within our young professional and water community.

After WEFTEC, the scholars will be invited to additional opportunities within WEF including internships, scholarships, and involvement with other WEF Student & Young Professional programming.

The program ensures that there will be no expenses incurred by the scholars, with expenses including airfare, hotel, registration, and meals covered by WEF.

The application will be reviewed based on your answer to the following questions:

Describe your university's involvement with WEF on a national or local member association level.
Describe any programs that your university has related to the water sector.
Describe any programs/initiatives that your university has for historically underrepresented racial and/or ethnic groups.
Explain why your university is interested in participating in the WEF InFLOW Program.
Explain how you would select scholars to participate in the WEF InFLOW Program.

Important Dates

The 2023 STEMpath Schedule is as follows:

January 2023 - STEMpath Application for Schools and Universities opens
March 23, 2023 - Application Period Closes
April 2023 - Accepted universities notified
June 2023- Universities submit names of participating scholars to WEFF
September 2023 - Scholars participate in Introduction to the Water Sector virtual programming
Sept. 30 – Oct. 4, 2023 - Scholars attend WEFTEC in Chicago, Illinois

STEMpath 2023 Schedule

The WEF InFLOW STEMpath program is designed to engage and inspire scholars. We introduce scholars to opportunities in the water sector and help them foster a network within the water community.

The 2023 program is a combination of virtual activities to introduce scholars to the water sector and in-person events at WEFTEC 2023 in Chicago, Illinois. The programming includes opportunities for scholars to learn and interact directly with some of today's biggest names in water.

- Tips & Tricks to Getting a Job in Water
- WEFTEC Orientation
WEFTEC In-person Activities:
- Students & Young Professionals Community Service Project (optional)
- Student Design Competition
- Tour of a local water resource recovery facility
- Opening General Session
- WEFTEC Career Fair
- Students & Young Professionals Committee
- Technical Session and Exhibition Hall
- Industry Leaders Discussion Panel
- Closing Ceremony & Networking Luncheon

University Responsibilities

By participating in the WEF InFLOW STEMpath program, universities agree to:

Select up to 2 full-time undergraduate/graduate students that qualify for the WEF InFLOW STEMpath program and identify as being from historically underrepresented racial and/or ethnic groups.
Select at least one scholar for the program that is not an engineering student (other STEM fields encouraged).
Encourage a gender balance of participating students.
NEW for 2023: We ask the University to help ensure student(s) get everything set by deadlines.
- WEF will directly cover the cost for the following:

Hotel Accommodations - Two students per room
WEFTEC Registration
Flights
Stipends - in the form of AMEX Cards

Highly encourage the university to send a representative, faculty member, or professor to WEFTEC (registration cost can be provided by WEF).
Coordinate and notify university faculty that students will be missing classes.
Be available for follow-up communication with WEF about their experience.

Student Criteria & Responsibilities

Accepted universities will recommend students who qualify under the below criteria and responsibilities to partake in the InFLOW STEMpath Program:

Full-time undergraduate or graduate student at a participating School/University
- Preferably entering sophomore or junior year in Fall 2023
- Preferably majoring in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) field
18 years of age or older
Represent a historically underrepresented racial and/or ethnic group.
Required to participate in online activities from September-October 2023.
Required to attend WEFTEC 2023 in Chicago, Illinois from Sept. 30 – Oct. 4, 2023, and fully participate in all scheduled activities.
Willing to fully participate with WEF Staff, Sponsors, & Members before and after WEFTEC 2023.
Responsibly represent their School/University during WEF InFLOW events and while in Chicago, Illinois.
Follow Illinois State and Federal Laws, including not consuming alcohol if under 21.
Experience in water is not required, but an interest in the water industry is encouraged.
