The student membership package is designed for the specific needs of students – our future water quality professionals – as it offers student members a solid foundation on which to build their careers and gain instant credibility with water quality leaders.
It is available to students who are enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours in an accredited college or university and who provide written documentation verifying their student status. You are welcome to participate in WEF’s student membership package.
Note: A faculty member or advisor must sign the verification on official school letterhead within 30 days of joining.
Membership Rate:
$22/year, plus local WEF Member Association dues for the United States and Canada.

- Student Chapters – WEF’s Student Chapters promote student interest in the water and wastewater industry and provide an avenue for the exchange of information and ideas between students and members.
- Student Chapter of the Year Award – Beginning in 2023, the WEF Awards Program will recognize one WEF Student Chapter for exemplary effort in helping WEF in building a community of empowered professionals who create a healthy global water environment.
- Mentorship Program – The WEF Students and Young Professionals Committee is proud to announce the launch of a WEF Mentorship Program. The purpose of this pilot program is to provide rising WEF members with an avenue to connect with leaders outside of their own organization to discuss growth in both career and personal development.
- WEF Community Service Project – This annual project aims to make a difference in the WEFTEC host city by leaving a positive impact on the local water environment and educating the community about the value of water.

Scholarships and Awards
- WEF Canham Graduate Studies Scholarship – Apply for this $25,000 scholarship for education-related expenses for a post-baccalaureate student in the water environment field. The scholarship can cover room and board, tuition, and books.
- U.S. National Stockholm Junior Water Prize – This award is presented to a high school-level water-related research project at the U.S. national competition. The winner receives a $10,000 prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to Stockholm, Sweden, to represent the U.S. at the international competition, held during World Water Week.
- Student Design Competition – The WEF Student Design Competition promotes real-world design experience for students interested in pursuing education and careers in water and wastewater engineering and science.
