The Water Environment Federation (WEF), Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), and the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) are pleased to announce the call for abstracts for the Nutrient Symposium 2015 in San Jose, California. 

This event continues WEF’s tradition of addressing the challenge of sustainable nutrient management through education and sharing of best practices.  This symposium is dedicated to serving practitioners involved in addressing the nutrient issues in today’s world.  The focus for this event will be on the practical design and process operations of dealing with nutrient issues across the globe.  The intended audience for the event will be utility staff, consultants, regulators, and vendors who are addressing nutrients at water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs). 

The conference program will be developed to include 15-20 minute presentations, short briefings, and interactive facilitated discussion in every session.  The event will also include pre-conference workshops and an exhibition.

Abstracts addressing the following topics were invited:

    3. Upgrading Existing WRRFs

    1. Implementing a Comprehensive Nutrient Program – Lessons Learned
    2. Incorporating Innovative Approaches – Strategies and Business Models
      1. Economics of Nutrient Removal/Recovery
    1. Regulations
      1. Changing Limits – Impacts on Planning and Design
      2. Trading and Offset Programs


Several criteria will be used to evaluate the abstracts, including originality, project status (in progress or completed), technical merit, significance to the industry, and overall quality.  Abstracts should be no longer than two pages in length including tables and figures.  Abstracts must be submitted no later than close of business on February 26, 2015.  Selected abstract authors will be notified in March and will need to complete a final manuscript.  In accordance with Federation policy, accepted authors who do not submit a final manuscript by the required deadline will be removed from the program. 


Presenters are expected to register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee.  No travel or assistance funds are available for speakers.
