<root>
Hi,

We are using the membrane filtration technique for enumurating fecal coliforms SM9222 D . Our secondary treatment plant uses UV for disinfection. Should we doing some recovery enhancement for stressed organisms SM9212 ? Our regulations are silent on the matter. What is commonly done in other juristictions? We discharge into salt water and our discharge limit is 2000 cfu/100mL.

Thank You

You'd better check that discharge limit of 2,000cfu! I think you mean 200. Unless you WDR's (waste discharge requirements) require you to run that test, you shouldn't have to. The buffers help somewhat in helping stressed bacteria, but not 100% I wouldn't worry about it.
