Hi,

 

We are using the membrane filtration technique for enumurating fecal coliforms SM9222 D . Our secondary treatment plant uses UV for disinfection. Should we doing some recovery enhancement for stressed organisms SM9212 ? Our regulations are silent on the matter. What is commonly done in other juristictions? We discharge into salt water and our discharge limit is 2000 cfu/100mL.

Unless you WDR's (waste discharge requirements) require you to run that test, you shouldn't have to. The buffers help somewhat in helping stressed bacteria, but not 100% I wouldn't worry about it.
