Diver

Divers help water agencies inspect and maintain reservoirs, water storage tanks, and underwater equipment. In addition to specialized diving skills, they need to understand the operation of specific facilities (such as water supply reservoirs). They also need to use a variety of tools and equipment underwater. They may:

  • check the location of algae in the layers of water in the reservoir;
  • inspect the condition of the dams and the reservoir;
  • inspect the reservoir fish and underwater plants for signs of disease, parasites, and fungus;
  • inspect and repair underwater equipment, such as water pipes and pumps;
  • locate and help remove unwanted items that are underwater, such as trash cans, shopping carts, and junked vehicles.
Education: Training in advanced open water diving, medic first aid, and rescue diving; a strong background in biology or aquatic sciences a plus.
Certificates, licenses: Dive Master certificate.
Desirable traits and skills: Enjoy working alone; meticulous attention to detail; good observational skills; good with equipment.
