Jan. 5, 2018 — Despite effort on both sides of the aisle, some appropriators are talking about the potential need for a fourth stopgap spending bill for FY2018.
On Dec. 21, Congress approved another temporary spending bill — funding the government through Jan. 19, 2018. Another continuting resolution (CR) to avoid a government shutdown would likely fund the government through President's Day (Feb. 19) while members continue to work out an agreement.
Continued disagreements center around border security, a plan for handling the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a healthcare package and equal increases in defense and nondefense money.
Meanwhile, the disaster aid package (H.R. 4667) — a supplemental spending bill, which was the largest in U.S. history — passed with bipartisan support in the House before the holidays; it was blocked in the Senate.
