On October 10, Sens. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) introduced the Low-Income Water Customer Assistance Programs Act of 2018 (S. 3564). This legislation would amend the Safe Drinking Water Act and Federal Water Pollution Control Act to establish pilot programs to assist low-income households in maintaining access to sanitation services and drinking water.

In addition to the pilot programs, the bill would require EPA to conduct a study on the cost and best methods for transitioning from a pilot program to a nationwide program.

WEF has endorsed the legislation, which has been referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
