NEWEA’s Government Affairs Committee published their Advocacy Toolkit in January 2020 to provide our membership with resources and information for engaging with their elected officials about key water quality issues. Additionally, ASAs each host their state’s own Legislative Briefing event in the month prior to National Water Week. These events allow water professionals to meet face-to-face with their local and state elected officials and advocate for the specific issues facing their state’s infrastructure and water environment. NEWEA leadership attends each of these state events and provides support and guidance with our position papers and policy statements.

Due to uncertainty related to the ongoing pandemic, NEWEA leadership has made the decision to participate in Water Week 2022 virtually. As part of this virtual participation, we will be premiering our new video, “Invest in Water. Invest in our Future”, which features interviews with water facility leadership from each of the six New England states discussing the importance of elected officials investing their time, support, and funding into the water industry.

Although we will not be in attendance in person in Washington, D.C. this year, NEWEA remains committed to expanding our membership’s participation in legislative events and continuing to advocate for support of our essential water professionals, investment in water infrastructure, and preservation of our precious water resources.
