Dec. 8, 2017 — On Dec. 7, the U.S. Senate confirmed Susan Bodine by voice vote to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforcement office, the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.
It took nearly 7 months to confirm Bodine, the former chief majority counsel for the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, partly because Democrats were frustrated with EPA for "not being responsive" to their repeated requesting for information. (Bloomberg BNA, 12/7/17)
However, this week Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE), Ranking Member of the EPW Committee told colleagues on the floor that the EPA had begun making a "good faith effort" of late to comply with those requests, clearing the way for an expedited vote on the Senate floor.
Bodine's confirmation drew praise from EPW Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY), as he cited Bodine's "extensive policy knowledge" given years of working on Capitol Hill. She also served as Assistant Administrator for EPA's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response during the Bush Administration.
