The 2019 National Water Policy Fly-In — April 3 and 4 — was a great success. More than 300 water professionals participated in the highest levels of policy advocacy before the U.S. Congress and Trump Administration.

During the Fly-in, which was held in coordination with Water Week 2019, participants interacted with top officials in the Trump Administration and key members of Congress during organized panels and roundtables on research, reuse, integrated planning, stormwater, WIFIA, and more.

U.S. EPA Assistant Administrator for the Office of Water David Ross helped kick off the event. Congressional staff from the several important committees also spoke about various important pieces of legislation, including the importance of a new infrastructure bill, WRDA reauthorization, the Clean Water Act, and the growing concern about PFAS.

2019 Fly-In

Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) welcomed participants before sending them out to meet with their members of Congress. Cardin and Westerman offered encouragement and reminded the participants that as constituents and water experts members of Congress want and need to hear from them.

Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW) Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-Del.) helped inspire attendees the night before at a reception in the Library of Congress.

WEF YP Scholarship
This also marked the second year of the WEF YP Scholarship program. YPs had the opportunity to meet other young professionals in the field and attend a special lunch prior to meeting their members of Congress. This scholarship program was created to grow YP interest in government affairs.
