| | Our City is in the process of SSES and systemwide repairs. A recurring problem has been the previous use of Fernco type adapters for VCP repairs and transitions. We are looking for a hard coupling system to use for these repairs. Are there any suggestions? Vendors and manufactureres have been no help so far. |

| | I would like to know what problems you have encountered with fernco connectors. |

| In my experience, transitions to/from VCP are difficult. The pipe's outside diameter (OD) is different from that of PVC, DIP, CIP, even from mfr to mfr. I've seen the steel banded flexible-type couplings used, but supplemented by concrete encasement of the joint. There are other brands of couplings out there too, some with much more substantial steel banding. I'll post the names if I can dig them out of old files. |

| If you have a lot of leakage problems AND need some additional capacity, you could try replacement of the VCP with C-900 or C-905 PVC. This is fairly easily done by pipe-bursting and fusible pipe (no joints.) If you are interested, I found help at this web site for the PVC: www.undergroundsolutions.com

| | We use a shielded coupling from Mission Rubber that we like a lot better than Fernco. It does cost a little more than a Fernco shielded coupling. |

| | Fernco's have no shear strength and they will allow root intrusion. Is there a reason you can't use a coupling like Romac or Smith-Blair? |

| | We use Harco fittings. They are a solid sleeve and our people think they're quite an improvement over ferncos. Here is a link http://www.harcofittings.com/. |
