Flow, Level, Temperature Switch
The FlexSwitch® FLT93S flow–level–temperature switch performs monitoring, controlling, and alarming of flow rates or levels of critical fluids. The switch is a dual-function insertion-style instrument that offers either flow–temperature sensing or level–temperature sensing. With a thermal dispersion mass flow sensor, the system features built-in temperature compensation for operation in extreme environments. The FLT Switch operates over a setpoint range in water from 0.003 to 0.9 m/s (0.01 to 3.0 ft/s). The standard FLT93S withstands operating temperatures from –40°C to 177°C (–40°F to 350°F). The Octopus logger is suitable for environmental data logging in rivers, tanks, reservoirs, and pipes. The logger is designed for multiple applications, including open-channel level and flow monitoring, flow rate and rainfall measurement, and pump usage and network pressure monitoring. The logger features a 5-year battery life, multiple inputs and outputs, and a fully submersible waterproof housing. The system also includes a switch output that enables it to drive additional equipment, such as samplers. The system uses the company’s Winfluid software, which configures the device, records its findings, and interprets results through automatic conversion algorithms to produce immediately usable data. Supercritical Fluid Extractor
The SFT-250 Supercritical Fluid Extractor is designed to perform a variety of extractions in supercritical fluid, to meet the daily rigors of the research lab, and to be used for small-scale pilot processing. The SFT-250’s extraction vessel is stainless steel and can range in size from 100 mL to 5 L. The SFT-250 can handle operating pressures up to 10,000 lb/in.2 and temperatures ambient to 200°C. The system’s proportional integral derivative controllers manage pumping rates, pressures, temperature zones, and mixing and safety interlocks. Supercritical Fluid TechnologiesInc. (Newark, Del.).
Loctite® 2047™, a high-lubricity threadlocker, is designed to work as a lubricant that reduces friction and achieves proper clamp load during fastener assembly for fasteners more than 0.875 in. in diameter. It also is designed to be an adhesive and sealant that eliminates loosening, maintains clamp load, and prevents corrosion. It achieves fixture strength after 90 minutes and full cure after 24 hours. The NIRQuest spectrometer for environmental monitoring, contaminant detection in wastewater and soil, and content analysis of recycled plastics is available in versions for coverage from 900 to 1700 nm, 900 to 2050 nm, and 900 to 2500 nm. The spectrometer’s modular design features an indium gallium arsenide-array detector in a compact optical bench, a thermoelectric cooler, and low-noise electronics. Ocean Optics (Dunedin, Fla.).
The model ML04 Water Specialties Propeller Flow Meter™ is a steel, flanged-end tube meter with indicator–totalizer and is designed to measure clean water flows in many municipal and industrial applications. It measures liquid flow from 40 to 35,000 gal/min, depending on line size. The ML04 is suitable for service in line sizes from 2 to 48 in. and is designed for temperatures up to 140°F. The system features a 4-in. display with 250-degree dial, six-digit totalizer, test sweep hand, and an optional transmitter that provides a 4–20-mA output that indicates either flow rate or totalized flow volume in support of supervisory control and data acquisition systems. Ceramic dual-thrust bearings handle forward and reverse direction flow. A cast-bronze gearbox offers a removable one-piece stainless steel separator–spindle. O-ring seals are used at the meter head and all other points where seals are required. The meters can be installed vertically, horizontally, or inclined. McCrometer (Hemet, Calif.).
The VUEWorks® 2009 scalable suite of software modules for managing work processes, capturing citizen concerns, and executing preventive maintenance enables companies and organizations to track the condition, minimize the risk of failure, prioritize expenditures, and manage service delivery of their physical assets. It enables organizations to retrieve key asset data, apply work-management practices, and develop strategic asset management programs for any infrastructure physical asset. A new Facilities Module provides flexible tracking of any asset that is typically not identified as part of the geographical information system (GIS) data. Facilities can be linked to GIS assets for easy selection from the map. The TranStar Steerable Tractor for video pipeline inspection is equipped with two 90-watt rare-earth permanent magnet motors. Designed to work with RS Technical Omni III, NovaSTAR, and TrakSTAR cameras, it provides inspection capability in sanitary or storm lines 6 to 30 in. in diameter and up to 3000 ft in length. The TranStar can turn on its own axis and travel up to 60 ft/min with three forward speeds, reverse, and freewheel. RS Technical Services Inc. (Petaluma Calif.).
The Gemini 720i multibeam imaging sonar is designed to combine the benefits of long-range detection with high-definition imaging techniques. With a lightweight, compact design, the sonar can be deployed on most Remotely Operated Vehicle and Autonomous Underwater Vehicle platforms. Weighing 1.2 kg in water, Gemini is supplied with Ethernet and very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line communication modes, which offer the option to communicate either through fiber-optic cables or long-distance twisted-pair channels, depending on the configuration of the umbilical. The introduction of a curved transmit transducer array ensures that acoustic energy power is evenly transferred across a wide-swath imaging sector, speeding up search and navigation operations. To sharpen up the acoustic range resolution, an innovative sound-velocity sensor has been integrated into the design to monitor the local velocity of sound conditions. Tritech International Ltd. The Series 3500 two-way, two-position solenoid–air operated pilot valve is suitable for air control, inert-gas control, water, condensate drainage, hot-water plumbing, and sprinkler systems. The 3500 has an ambient temperature range of –10°C to 50°C. When combined with the Series 3000 solenoid operator and used as a direct acting–pilot operated valve, the 3500 gives full flow throughout a pressure range from zero to 230 lb/in.2. Available in 0.25-, 0.375-, and 0.5-in. National Pipe Thread sizes, the valve features high life-cycle solenoid parts, a push, and nonlocking manual override. Spartan Scientific (Boardman, Ohio).
Portable Liquid Management System
The BC210PA series portable liquid management system is compact, self-contained, and battery powered. The system uses the high-precision Proces-Data PD340 Electromagnetic Flow Transmitter as it sensing element. The PD340 utilizes a square measuring tube and unique full-length electrodes for a consistent magnetic field across the entire flow profile and a high turn-down ratio of up to 100:1. The PD340 is mounted in a stainless steel enclosure with a front-panel microprocessor operator interface, gel cell batteries, and 120-VAC charger. The BC210PA is available in sizes from 1 to 3 in., and a calibration certification traceable to NIST standards comes with every system. Conflow Technologies Inc. (Brampton, Ontario).
The Rosemount Analytical Model 6081-C WirelessHART™ contacting conductivity transmitter, is suitable for conductivity applications difficult or dangerous to access or too costly to perform with a wired transmitter. The system, compatible with other wireless devices, functions in a self-organizing network in which every wireless device in the network acts as a router for nearby devices for high data-transmission reliability and network availability. System features include compatibility with 2- and 4-electrode sensors, compatibility with AMS® suite, and a measurement span from zero to 600,000 µS/cm. The OEM pressure sensors from MicroSensor of China, including the models MPM280, MPM281, MPM283, and MDM290, are designed for rugged industrial applications. Various pressure ranges up to 100 MPa are available in either gauge, absolute, or differential versions. Noncorrosive, isolated construction and stainless steel packages for various media make MicroSensor OEM pressure sensors excellent for embedded applications where ruggedness, anticorrosiveness, and exposure to media are important. These industrial pressure sensors have an unamplified, linear millivolt output, which includes temperature compensation. Using an oil-filled piezoresistive pressure sensor with a stainless steel diaphragm, the MicroSensor OEM pressure-sensor line is designed for durability in such applications as petroleum refineries, wastewater treatment, industrial HVAC and refrigerant systems, and liquid-level measurement. The Model DO700 portable dissolved-oxygen meter is designed for both laboratory and field applications. It measures dissolved-oxygen concentration and saturation, pH, mV, conductivity, TDS, salinity, resistivity, and temperature. It also features automatic salinity compensation and manual barometric pressure compensation for dissolved-oxygen measurements. The meter features a three-point pH calibration, automatic temperature compensation, a backlit dual LCD display, a dissolved-oxygen probe with three membrane caps, and memory that stores up to 400 readings. Ultrasonic Flowmeter Converter
The Series UXF3 ultrasonic flowmeter converter is paired with series SX1 or SX2 sensors to utilize the transit-time measurement method. The flowmeter, suitable for liquid flow measurements for pipes from 0.5 in. to 19.5 ft in diameter, can be configured from the front keypad to specific applications. The flowmeter’s accuracy is ±1% of the flow rate and provides resistance against aerated flow, such as sludge, untreated wastewater, and bubble-contained flow. Other features include high-speed digital signal-processing technologies, an LCD screen, and front-panel buttons. Dwyer Instruments Inc. (Michigan City, Ind.).
The H25 and H38 Advanced™ series metal piston pumps have been designed for use in applications with low volumes and high discharge pressures. The H25 pump utilizes a simplex-action piston to create approximately a 13:1 pressure ratio of discharge fluid to inlet air supply to generate up to 110.3 bar (1600 psig). The H38 model uses a double-action piston to create a 26:1 pressure ratio of discharge fluid pressure to inlet air supply to generate up to 220.6 bar (3200 psig). The pumps are designed for applications that require discharge pressures greater than the 1:1 pressure ratio. The maximum flow rate for the H25 is 4.1 L/min (1.1 gal/min) and the maximum flow rate for the H38 is 7.6 L/min (2 gal/min), with a maximum inlet air pressure of 8.6 bar (125 psig).
