Unity Envirotech (St. Petersburg, Fla.) received a Florida Department of Environmental Protection permit to construct and operate a 280-dry-Mg/d (310-dry-ton/d) regional biosolids and residuals management facility in Polk County, Fla.

BioteQ Environmental Technologies Inc. (Vancouver, British Columbia) received the 2009 Environmental and Social Responsibility Award from the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (Toronto). The company received the award for developing water treatment systems that reduce the environmental liability associated with mine wastewater.

Black & Veatch (Kansas City, Mo.), in association with Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung Inc. (Savannah, Ga.), received the 2009 Engineering Excellence Honor Award presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (Columbia) for design and construction management of the Charleston (S.C.) Water System’s Sewer Tunnel Replacement Program.

Tnemec Co. Inc. (North Kansas City, Mo.) recently named Terry Wallace vice president of sales. Wallace has technical expertise in architectural coatings and troubleshooting moisture intrusion issues, and has served as the company’s director of masonry products and then director of sales development.

ECO:LOGIC Engineering (Rocklin, Calif.) added a new photovoltaic solar array on the 1860-m2 (20,000-ft2) rooftop of its headquarters. The solar system provides enough power during the day to supply electricity for 60 employees. The company also upgraded all fixtures in the building to save energy.

MIOX Corp. (Albuquerque, N.M.) recently expanded its operations to the East Coast, opening a facility in Lansdale, Pa. Key personnel to be based in the new location include senior vice president of sales Anthony Picozzi and vice president of industrial markets Robert Newton.

Kleinfelder (San Diego) recently hired Kathleen Niesen, formerly director of operations at MWH Americas Inc. (Broomfield, Colo.), as the company’s new water division manager. She will be based in the San Diego office.
