Does anyone have experience with a Sysco/Ecolab product called Boil Out. It is used to clean the deep fat fryer in a restaurant. It contains sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, trisodium phosphate and nonionic surfactants. If it cleans the fryer, I assume it will also clean the large external greast trap(1200gal) right into the collection system. MSDS is useless and the manufacture is unresponsive to information requests. Thanks

<root>
Not sure what the instructions are on the product, but I wouldn't think too much would be used to clean a deep frier. So unless it is being sold by the 55gal drum you shouldn't have a problem.

Some friends of mine had a restaurant that used this, or a similar highly caustic product. Key point is that the product was kept in a barrel, and was repeatedly reused. I'm not sure of the frequency they changed it out, but it was weeks if not months. So it should not be a routine discharge.

If they store it in a barrel I hope they have their grease trap pumped prior to discharge of the whole barrelful of solution. If not then they would probably dissolve the collected grease and emulsify it into the sewer line. At some point downstream it might solidify and cause a blockage the same as if too hot water is discharged thru the greasetrap.
