WASTEWATER MICROBIOLOGY & PROCESS CONTROL

Course Trainer: Toni Glymph

“Toni” Glymph graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Chemistry and Biology with the emphasis on Microbiology.  She obtained a Masters in Environmental Microbiology and is also certified wastewater treatment plant operator with more than 15 years of actual hands on wastewater treatment system experience and has spent more than 22 years conducting microscopic evaluations and troubleshooting wastewater treatment system upsets. She has conducted over 200 Wastewater Microbiology workshops including, Activated Sludge Process Control and Operations, Wastewater Microbiology and Process Control, Filamentous Bacteria Identification and Control, Lagoon Treatment System Microbiology, Algae Identification in Wastewater Treatment Lagoons, Slime Bulking & Foaming and The Use of Staining in Wastewater Microbiology Process Control. She continues to conduct an average of 12 workshops each year.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: The objective of this class is to teach the operators, lab personnel and consultants how to optimize the wastewater treatment plant processes using the microscope and knowledge of the microbiology.  In this class the wastewater professional will learn how to identify the microorganisms that are favorable to the Activated Sludge treatment process and gain an understanding of how to maintain the proper environment for their growth.  The student will also learn to diagnose treatment system problems based on the microbiology of the system.  He will also be introduced to process control methods and causes and cures for problematic filamentous bacteria.

PARTICIPANT INSTRUCTIONS: Participants should bring a sample of mixed liquor, (on ice if collected over night).  Please do not fill the sample to the top of the container.  Leave air space.  If possible, participants should bring microscopes and slides.  Class is Limited to 40 people per location
