Tempes on activated sludge treatment facilities
Here has an on going problem in colder climates. In colder climates, most activated sludge treatment are poor settling. Such as SBR, contact stabilization, extended air, etc. they all seem to suffer from the same problem once their temps. drop below about 10 C. Has any one come across any studies or articles on this problem?
I do not have any direct references to this problem but a recent AWWA jornal dealing with generating energy from wastewater made a passing mention that some European treatment plants were using their digester gas to warm up their aeration basins to improve their cold-weather performance.
The exact process was not described but I figure it may have been a gas-fired boiler water loop.
Hope this helps.
