| What Robert has said above (despite Jerry's suspicions) is essentially correct. Bioxide is generally added in a lift station and provides an oxygen source in the force main. There is a denitrification reaction in which the bugs steal the oxygen from the nitrate rather than from sulfate. This releases nitrogen gas and prevents the formation of hydrogen sulfide. Historically this has been a US Filter product (now Siemens Corp.) In my system, Siemens provides a technician to adjust the feed rate of the Bioxide so that there is no under-feeding nor over-feeding. As said, it's not cheap. I spend around $1 million per year, but only cover a fraction of my 500 lift stations.

| Robert We piloted iron and peroxide but never used sodium nitrate, or calcium nitrate. So I have many questions to the people that have experience with this: How do you manage for not overdosed? How do you calculate the quantity of nitrate that you need Who sell this product? Can you give me an idea about the prices? Do you know any publication about the use of nitrate that could help me to know more about the correct use of it.

| | Paula, We buy our Bioxide from Siemens ( US FILTER ). If you check their website at siemens.com you can get a better idea on the product. They came to our site and did some testing to determine where are problems areas were and how much of the product we would need based on levels of sulfide . We then set up a demo . That was 10 years ago and we are still using it, in fact we added another site. Its isn't cheap but it works and there are no environmental or hazard concerns like you have with other products. It controls odors and prevents corrosion in the collections system and in downstream structures. Good Luck |

| | Rotifer Thank you for the advices but in my country doesn`t exist Siemens ( US FILTER ), so I have to find another alternative or a local enterprise that sell the nitrate.
