Hope this helps. My guess it would not be considered an area for explosion proofing but would like Jeff said save on equipment because of corrosion. Pay me now or pay me later. We don't have explosion proof equipment in our solids building just in the influent pump station.

http://search.leg.wa.gov/pub/textsearch/ViewRoot.asp?Action=Html&Item=1&X=328072656&p=1

RE: Explosion proof

Hey Jerry:
I'm not sure what standard practice is for sludge-handling rooms, in terms of requiring explosion-proof to actually prevent sparking. However, the levels of hydrogen sulfide might require some form of higher rating on electrical components just to prevent damage inside electrical devices and cabinets. Any copper components will turn black from copper sulfide almost instantaneously.

Explosion proof

I need some guidance on what type of explosion proof equipment would be needed in a sludge centrifuge room. Is ventilation sufficient,or is explosion proof equiptment needed,or do we need to explosion proof the whole room? Who would have the regs or guidance on this. Tried searching OSHA, but no luck.
