Water Treatment Handbook: Volumes I and II, 7th Edition

Water Treatment Handbook is a two-volume reference book with a total of 25 chapters. This newly revised and updated edition covers an array of water and wastewater treatment theory and practice topics. The writing style is smooth and lucid, and the authors’ approach to the theory and practice of water treatment is straightforward and accessible.

In Volume I, the authors cover the fundamentals of water physics and chemistry at great length. Considerable details are given on why and what water should be treated. Water treatment needs of industries such as agri-food, textile, paper and pulp, oil, steel, automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical, and biotechnical are explained with unique information and concepts. Physical–chemical engineering processes elaborate the conventional treatment techniques along with new technology, such as membrane processes. An entire chapter is devoted to the most basic data, units, and formulae. It includes commonly used information about chemistry, hydraulics, electricity, instrumentation, and heat.

Volume II covers wastewater treatment techniques. However, it also includes chapters on instrumentation and measurements, chemical storage and feeding, industrial processes, and effluent treatment. Solids reduction and management are discussed in a practical way. The authors incorporate newer technologies, such as membrane processes, ultraviolet radiation, and ozonation, as related to wastewater treatment. Two full chapters are devoted to treatment and conditioning of industrial water. A separate section addresses removal of microconstituents. Package plants and small-scale treatment technologies also are discussed.

This book is an excellent resource for water industry professionals, academicians, regulators, and plant operators. It contains information rarely found in any water industry handbook. For future editions, more details on drinking water and wastewater discharge regulations would be a valuable addition.
