Converter The UXF1 Converter is part of a fixed ultrasonic flowmeter system based on the transit time measurement method for measuring flow rates of relatively clean homogeneous liquids. Systems are composed of a converter and a clamp-on sensor. With its microprocessor-based electronics, this ultrasonic flowmeter can be configured from the front keyboard to particular applications. The Series UXF1 sensor is suitable for liquid flow measurement for pipe diameters from 0.50 to 235 in. This unit features a large LCD display and function keys, as well as a multilingual display. Dwyer Instruments Inc. (Michigan City, Ind.).
Flowmeter The redesigned F-450N Series Flowmeter is designed to be durable, with 25% greater body-wall thickness to resist high temperatures and pressures. Other features include an adjustable flow-indicating marker, flow ranges from 0.1 to 10 gal/min, a direct-reading permanent scale, configurations for in-line or panel mount, and an optional integral flow-adjustment valve. Blue–White Industries (Huntington Beach, Calif.).
Mass Spectrometers An expanded line of AXIMA MALDI TOF mass spectrometers includes the PerformanceTM, ConfidenceTM, and AssuranceTM. All systems are fully integrated with robotic sample-preparation devices, including the AccuSpot MALDI plate spotter and CHIP chemical printer. Flexible target formats range from 48-well microscope slide format targets to a 384-well microtitre plate target. Shimadzu Scientific Instruments (Kyoto, Japan).
Flowmeter The Mc® Propeller Model MO300SW Reverse-Helix Flow Meter is designed to shed a variety of organic and inorganic debris and resists sand typically associated with flow measurement in surface-water and water-well applications. The flowmeter comes in a bolt-on saddle configuration suitable for use in line sizes from 4 to 12 in. The reverse-helix impellers are designed with high-impact polypropylene plastic. The flowmeter offers stainless steel construction, requires no electric power, and features a standard instantaneous mechanical flow indicator with a six-digit flow totalizer. McCrometer (Hemet, Calif.).
Faucet The Type 530 AquaTap™ Recirculating Laboratory Faucet features a patented flow-through head designed to eliminate dead-legs and optimize flow characteristics. It is available for main water loop sizes ranging from 32 mm to 63 mm. The faucet is available in polyvinylidene fluoride, and accessory products are available in both polyvinylidene fluoride and polypropylene. GF Piping Systems (Tustin, Calif.).
Safety Switches The NEMA 3R Double-Throw Safety Switches feature a heavy-duty design and a 10-year leakproof limited warranty. The nonfused switches enable manual transfer between utility power and a standby generator in power emergencies and are available at 30–400A, 240V and 600V. They utilize a rainproof enclosure equipped with rain-guard overhangs and meet ANSI/NFPA 70, Article 702 standards. GE Consumer & Industrial (Plainville, Conn.).
Piping The N-12 HP pipe structure is designed to be specified for storm, sanitary, and other high-performance project applications. The pipe’s triple-wall resin construction is supported by a corrugated structural core for greater strength and easier backfill installation. Beginning in 2009, the product will be available in diameters up to 1500 mm. Standard length will be 20 ft, with shorter lengths available. Advanced Drainage Systems Inc. (Hilliard, Ohio).
Vibration Transmitter The CSI 9330 Vibration Transmitter interfaces with existing control and monitoring systems while enabling users to drive for improvements in machine reliability. It converts the analog output of an ICP® accelerometer into a 4–20mA signal, proportional to monitored vibration, and also delivers patented PeakVue® measurements, which provide additional insight into the condition of rotating element bearings and gear boxes. Available in two configurations, it provides overall vibration and PeakVue data when connected to a standard accelerometer, and it provides vibration and temperature data when connected to an accelerometer with an embedded temperature capability. Emerson Process Management (St. Louis).
Monitoring System The AM Air Monitoring System is designed to detect, identify, and measure a wide range of compounds simultaneously within seconds of startup. Analysis is onsite through a continuous sampling path of up to 1000 m. The MIDAC AM System can provide continuous, unattended, near real-time detection at ppb to percentage levels for hundreds of chemicals. The analyzer is coupled to a control PC via standard ribbon cable or long-range fiber-optic link. MIDAC Corp. (Costa Mesa, Calif.).
Nutrient Removal Process The new AqWise Remote N’ Control is a process developed to provide high carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand and total-nitrogen removal capability for small to medium-size wastewater treatment plants. The dual-action denitrification and effluent filtration solution are designed to reduce the footprint and process complexity of the wastewater treatment plant while meeting stringent nitrogen-level requirements. The process enables both automatic and remote operation with little need for human intervention. Aqwise (Hertzliya, Israel).
