Water quality engineers will find this book a powerful tool. It covers basic diffuse pollution concepts, diffuse pollution observations as affected by natural and human activities, and engineering modeling. Water quality descriptions are presented in terms of both measurable quantities and narrative statements. Therefore, this book also could be useful for local, state, and federal employees involved in water issues, as well as for students who are studying water quality engineering or water quality management.

The book focuses on two important and related topics, namely, diffuse pollution and watershed management. Each of the 14 chapters addresses a different subtopic. The author provides innovative problem-solving approaches for water and soil resources damaged by diffuse pollution. The information and techniques presented emphasize sustainability, protection, and restoration of resources with a consideration of land-use ethics and the socioeconomic aspects of abatement and preservation. State-of-the-art technical and socioeconomic tools are presented for controlling and abating diffuse pollution in urban, highway, agricultural, and industrial environments, as well as for managing and restoring streams, lakes, and watersheds. The material presented is extensively informative and reflects the latest regulatory guidelines and updated information on major legal decisions.
