This book is a valuable reference tool for experienced engineers, operators, and managers who have some level of understanding of pumping station design and operation. It provides excellent coverage of all the major components of pumping stations. Given the large volume of information presented, it is not written for the young professional or layperson. An understanding of fundamental engineering theories is necessary to fully appreciate the information presented in most of the chapters. 

This book is best defined as a manual focused on the practical aspects of pumping stations. The reader is provided with a one-stop source for basic pumping station design principles. Most chapters are followed by reference and supplementary reading sections, which direct the reader to sources for further reading.

This book has nearly 200 authors and contributors. Despite the vast array of experts who contributed to this work, it reads seamlessly. The chapters are fairly well balanced with respect to subject relevance and importance, and the writing style is consistent throughout the entire text.

Since this book provides a good starting point for design concepts and troubleshooting, I would highly recommend it to any practicing engineer looking to further develop their understanding of pumping stations. It is a valuable addition to any experienced engineer’s personal library.
