According to quality control procedures, the glucose-glutamic acid standard for the biochemical oxygen demand test must be prepared fresh just before analysis. However, laboratory testing shows that GGA solutions remain stable for weeks.
In the interest of efficiency, these findings indicate that the procedure for the preparation of BOD certification standards with respect to requirement for the daily preparation of GGA should be re-evaluated.

The Verdict Is In
Florida citrus trees prosper when irrigated by reclaimed wastewater.
After more than two decades of being irrigated with treated municipal wastewater, the citrus groves of central Florida have reached a verdict. They like it. They really like it.
That’s the finding of a long-term study conducted on behalf of Water Conserv II, a municipal reclaimed-water project operated by the city of Orlando and surrounding Orange County since 1986.

Comprehensive Maintenance: Collections Systems to Solids Handling
Good maintenance is necessary to keep flows moving smoothly and prevent systems failures. Attention needs to be paid beginning at sewer laterals all the way through solids dewatering. Faced with an aging cogeneration system and rising energy costs, the City of Milbrae, Calif., needed to find an economically viable replacement system. By adding inedible kitchen grease to its anaerobic digester, the facility was able to significantly improve biogas production, increasing total electricity produced by 76%; improve solids dewaterability; and reduce solids volume by 33% and weight by 28%. Find out how Milbrae achieved these exceptional results while also helping alleviate the city’s FOG problem.
