Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee is currently engaged in several activities in the area of training, continuing education, and certification. The committee reviews proposals for WEFTEC® workshops each year and assists in the overall direction and quality control for the program.

The WEF Officers and Board of Trustees routinely consult the Committee for recommendations in matters related to training and certification. Examples of Committee activities include:

• Conducting a major review of the Qualified Environmental Professional credential sponsored by the Institute for Professional Environmental Practice. The Committee's report was presented to the WEF Board of Trustees and concluded that the QEP is a sound program that should continue to be supported by WEF.
• Providing technical leadership for a major update of WEF's Policy Statement on Operator Training and Certification.
• Working with the Government Affairs Committee and representatives of the Association of Boards of Certification on the development of joint language on operator certification and training for proposed inclusion in the reauthorized Clean Water Act.
