ALABAMA'S MIKE GODFREY TO CONTINUE TERM AS TREASURER OF THE WATER ENVIRONMENT FEDERATION

Birmingham Environmental Professional to Oversee $18 Million Budget

Alexandria, VA - Mike Godfrey will continue his term as Treasurer of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international technical, scientific, and educational water quality organization. Recognized during WEFTEC®.04, the Federation's 77th annual technical conference and exhibition (October 2-6), Godfrey will serve the second of a three-year term.

Godfrey is currently a supervisor in Environmental Affairs for Alabama Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company. Located at the company's corporate headquarters in Birmingham, Godfrey's section is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and permitting for all company facilities for hazardous waste and materials, PCB's, Superfund issues, TRI reporting, spill response and remediation, solid waste, recycling, pollution prevention and waste minimization programs, property assessments, environmental auditing and the company's environmental vendor audit program. Godfrey is also responsible for providing the company's response to state legislation and he has been appointed to numerous industry and state task forces related to the development of regulations and legislation. Prior to his current position, he was responsible for the company's compliance programs and permitting related to NPDES, UIC, Indirect Discharge and Drinking Water Programs.

Godfrey served as the Federation's Constitution & Bylaws Chair from 2000-2002 and was Vice Chair of the committee 1998-2000. A 1996 recipient of WEF's prestigious Arthur Sidney Bedell Award, he was a two-time member of the WEF Executive Committee from 1997 to 1999 and on the Board of Directors from 1994 to 1998. A member of WEF since 1983, Godfrey has been active on numerous Federation committees, including Government Affairs, Hazardous Waste as well as Constitution and Bylaws. He also served as one of three WEF members on the review team for the creation of the joint venture for the Utility Leadership Center with (AWWA, AMWA, and AMSA) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Godfrey has been an active member of Alabama's Water Environment Association (AWEA), serving as President, Vice-President and Secretary. He has also been chair of AWEA's Government Affairs, Long Range Planning, and Annual Conference Program committees.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Godfrey received a B.S. degree in civil engineering and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. His wife, Linda, is a Registered Dietitian and their son Joseph is a senior majoring in textile engineering at Auburn University.
