Learn about the "Regional Liaison Program " being initiated by the WEF SYPC. It was formed to aid in the formation of WEF/MA Student Chapters and Young Professionals (YP) committees, with special attention given to soliciting the involvement of young professionals.
Government Affairs Committee

The basic structure of the committee (legislative and regulatory sub-committees) and some of its current activities, including legislation being tracked, cooperative efforts with EPA, work groups under development, and GAC activities undertaken with and for MAs were discussed. The 35th anniversary of the Clean Water Act occurred during WEFTEC.07, and an important part of the dialogue with MA leaders focused on WEF’s efforts to gather information on ways to improve the Act in order to achieve water quality goals for the next 35 years. These efforts included a Congressional Briefing in September and a plenary session at WEFTEC. MA leaders were asked to consider holding similar sessions, either at their annual conferences or as part of a Government Affairs meeting. The GAC will support MAs interested in holding their own sessions by providing a sample agenda, presentation materials, and speaker candidates. MA leaders provided several suggestions in response to the question “what can we do to improve communication?” A popular theme was how to provide a vehicle for the exchange of member information on government affairs topics, and the GAC will investigate an internet list serve for MA government affairs topics. Members also discussed how to distribute information from the GAC within their own MAs.

MA Leadership was updated on several initiatives ongoing by the CSC.
Private Virtual Library - The WEF CSC has information on successful Private Property programs undertaken across the US and Canada to assist you in finding a private property solution. See attached PPVL.pdf for a fact sheet on the project, or to review the database go to: www.wef.org/PrivateProperty
MA Outreach - In 2006, the WEF CSC initiated a project to form linkages among MA Collections Systems Committees (CSCs), and between the MA CSCs and the WEF CSC. The national CSC’s purpose is to be WEF’s resource for collection system design, management, operation, and maintenance practices. We hope to share experiences and ideas with each other. An e-blast user group of MA CSC Chairs and Co-Chairs has been formed, and e-mails are being sent to the group bi-monthly to update them on what the WEF CSC is doing, as well as what their sister organizations are doing. Any MA member who wishes to join this user group can contact the WEF CSC Member Services, barbara.robinson@stantec.com to be added.
Collection Systems - Author and Abstract Database - Also in support of MA Outreach, the WEF CSC has been working over the past year to improve communications with the local MA CSCs. The WEF CSC MA Outreach maintains a database of Authors and Titles of Collections Systems Abstracts submitted to WEFTEC and the Collections Systems Specialty Conference. The database is available upon request to MA Chairs and Co-Chairs for use in soliciting papers for MA Conferences, if required. Contact Stu Bowns at stu.bowns@hydromaxusa.com
