Water agencies need more than just water to serve the public. They also manage a large amount of real estate (property). Their real estate includes buildings for treatment, storage, and maintenance, as well as miles of water mains and pipes. A water agency's real-estate agents may buy land for a reservoir or a treatment plant, or they may lease land for office space. In some cases, they manage land, such as land in a watershed that feeds a water supply reservoir. Real estate agents:
- plan and organize the buying, selling, or leasing a real estate properties;
- oversee rental and right of way agreements.
