Emerging business enterprise managers support the growth and development of new companies. Some water agencies support new businesses that are developing new water treatment or water testing methods. Other water utilities may support new minority-owned or women-owned businesses in the community. Such support helps strengthen the community's economic vitality. It also provides a solid base of local vendors for the agency to do business with. The emerging business enterprise manager must:
- understand accepted business practices within the agency and the community;
- know the language of contracts and contract administration;
- manage and work within established budgets;
- become involved in the community the water agency serves.
