Municipal Wastewater Treatment Design Committee's
Knowledge Management Subcommittee
The Knowledge Management Subcommittee serves as a planning function for MWTDC to develop wastewater treatment improvement activities that need broad support for development of new information relevant to the design of wastewater treatment plants. The role of the subcommittee will be to identify and help charter new self‐governing interest groups and/or technical task groups that need to be created to ensure that new knowledge, such as from research, is brought into standard practice. The interest group will be a collection of experts that will explore and promote the knowledge development of a particular municipal wastewater treatment practice (such as modeling or membrane design) through workshops and knowledge sharing practices. The role of a task group is to convert research and/or a ‘knowledge practice gap’ into a peer‐reviewed deliverable useful for practitioners. Identification of gaps in knowledge practice will come from the entire MWTDC membership, and the subcommittee will serve as a clearing house for the ideas and identification of opportunities for further development. Once these opportunities are developed and screened for relevance and impact, the meritorious ideas will be sent to the MWTDC's Steering Committee to seek sponsorship. Once approved, an interest group or a task group of a defined life (2‐3 years) will be formed and the Knowledge Management Subcommittee will seek leadership and membership for the task group from the diverse range of wastewater industry professionals with interest in the subject area within the MWTDC. The interest/task group will reside within the subcommittee and will be involved in the actual sharing/production of new knowledge. The chair and vice chair of the individual interest/task groups will represent the membership of this subcommittee. Liaison with WERF will be maintained for identification of areas of complimentary interest and gap analysis. The Knowledge Management Subcommittee will also seek independent peer review to assess the quality of the reports and other deliverables of the task group activities.
