Wet weather flows in municipal wastewater systems pose a complex problem to solve due to the competing restrictions set by available technologies, environmental and public health impacts, and financial affordability of communities across the United States. The purpose of this seminar is to provide participants with an opportunity for training in the fundamental concepts presented in WEF’s Guide to Managing Peak Wet Weather Flows in Municipal Wastewater Collection and Treatment Systems. The WEF guide presents a facility planning and management approach using proven risk based principles and good engineering practices. These provide a method for POTWs to be more proactive in planning for wet weather fl ows and to build support for real-world solutions that effectively use resources to improve water quality.
Seminar presenters will provide guidance on how to implement an integrated, watershed-based approach to wet weather flow management that comprehensively addresses collection system, wastewater treatment, and receiving water quality. The seminar will include presentations that illustrate the fundamental aspects of each topic covered in the WEF guide, followed by case study examples that illustrate successful principles in practice. An interactive session involving the seminar participants will be part of the seminar and is designed to share creative wet weather solutions experienced by the participants and speakers.
Please see the seminar draft agenda for a detailed overview of the conference program. The agenda was last updated on March 18, 2008.
