This conference provides a forum for those professionals concerned with disinfection needs and technologies. The conference will be focused on all aspects of the disinfection of water, wastewater, reuse water and biosolids. The conference will also have a special focus on the disinfection or other treatment of water and the treatment and disinfection of wastewater in small communities and households in developed and developing countries.
More specific topics for the regular sessions are: Pathogen Detection and Treatment; Microbial Risk Assessment; Research and Application of UV, Ozone, Halogens (Chlorine, Chlorine dioxide, Chloramines etc); Membranes for Microbial Removal; Microbial Indicators in Distribution Systems and the Environment; Regulatory Perspectives (Microbial, DBP’s); CSO/SSO; Reuse; Biosolids; Disinfection System Validation and Modeling; Research and Application of Emerging Technologies; Future Trends; Vulnerability Assessment, Preparedness and Response; and Integrated Disinfection Approaches. The synergy of Disinfectants/ Disinfection techniques and approaches continue to change as our understanding of pathogens and disease transmission increase.
More specific topics for the special track on household and community water and wastewater treatment and disinfection in developed and developing communities are: Technology Assessment including Microbial Effectiveness, Disease Reduction, Community Acceptance; Technology Design; Technology Improvements; Emerging Technologies; Technology Comparisons; Emerging Evaluation Metrics; Evaluation Strategies; Implementation Strategies including Pilot Project Evaluations; Program Evaluations; Scaling-up Strategies, Applicability to Emergency Situations; Student Research; Water Quality Assessments; Community Assessments; Monitoring Strategies; Cost-effectiveness; User Acceptability and Preference. Abstracts are welcome from all household and community water and wastewater treatment options, including those that incorporate a disinfection step, and those that do not.
Please submit your abstract under one of the following areas:
A. Disinfection Resistance B. Emerging Pathogens C. Modeling Disinfection D. Risk Assessment E. Biosolids Disinfection F. System Sizing G. Reclaimed Water H. Disinfection Byproducts I. Source Tracking J. UV Design/Operations K. Innovative Disinfection Methods L. Dechlorination M. Alternate Disinfection Systems N. Household Wastewater Collection/Disinfection/Treatment O. Small Community Water Collection/Disinfection P. Small Community Wastewater Distribution/Disinfection Q. Other
Several criteria will be used to evaluate the abstracts, one of the most important being whether the results and experiences from the project are available for presentation. Abstracts must be received no later than close of business on June 25, 2008. The authors of the selected abstracts will be notified in September and will need to complete a final manuscript. Manuscripts will be subject to revision or rejection if lacking in quality. In accordance with Federation policy, accepted authors who do not submit a manuscript by the required deadline will be removed from the program.
Authors of papers selected for this conference will have the opportunity to have their works reviewed and published in one of WEF’s peer-reviewed journals, Water Environment Research or Water Practice. |
