Water Journalism Award

Each year, ITT Corporation presents the ITT Award for Excellence in Student Water Journalism to a high school student for outstanding reporting, in either print or broadcast media, on a water-related environmental issue. Like the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, this award aims to foster young people’s interest in issues concerning water and the environment. Additionally, this competition promotes a community dialogue on water issues and allows students to learn about the best resources available to write about water issues.

Prize Recognition
Winners of the prize receive an all-expense-paid trip to Stockholm, Sweden, during World Water Week to report on the international Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition. The student receives $1,000 upon publication of an editorial, feature, or commentary that is directly related to his or her experiences at the competition. In addition, the student’s advisor also receives an all-expense-paid trip to Stockholm to accompany the student.

Entry Criteria
The competition is open to currently enrolled high school students who have pursued journalism projects focusing on local, regional, national, or global topics of environmental, scientific, social, or technological importance as it relates to water.

The entry must be a feature, editorial, or commentary that is original student work. Publication of entry is preferred, but not required, and can include publication in a high school or professional newspaper, magazine, website, or broadcast channel. Publication must occur  within one year of the contest deadline. Each entry must be the work of one student.
