Jay Witherspoon is a member of the 2007-2008 Board of Trustees for the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international organization of water quality professionals headquartered in Alexandria, Va.
He is currently the vice president and technology director of wastewater treatment services at CH2M HILL, a role held since 1996. In this role, he is responsible for managing technology services related to air quality, residuals, wastewater treatment, wastewater collections, natural treatment systems, and reuse services and technology tools.
Jay was named a Fellow Technologist by the firm in 2002 - the highest technology classification at CH2M HILL. This distinction is based on skills, responsibilities, experience | leading projects of global significance, and taking a leadership role in several professional groups.
Active in the profession, Mr. Witherspoon has served in leadership postions for several industry and public groups, delivered keynote speeches at international conferences, mentored professionals around the world, and developed industry leading tools and models for wastewater collection and treatment systems. In addition, Mr. Witherspoon has shared his expertise on controlling air and odor emissions and wastewater treatment technology through a variety of published books, technical papers and reports.
A WEF member since 1997, Jay is currently chair of WEF’s Community of Practice on Microconstituents and chair of Committee Leadership Counsel (CLC) Knowledge Focus Commitee. He has also served as chair (2001-2004) and co-chair (1998-2001) of WEF’s Air Quality Committee. Jay received a B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering from the University of California.
