J. Michael Godfrey - Treasurer
         

J. Michael Godfrey is the 2005-2006 Treasurer of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international organization of water quality professionals headquartered in Alexandria, Va.

He is currently Environmental Affairs Manager for Southern Nuclear Operating Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company. In that capacity, Mike is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and permitting for all of the company’s nuclear generation facilities for all environmental programs, environmental auditing and the company’s environmental vendor audit program.

He is also responsible for providing the company’s support for radiological protection, dosimetry, radiological environmental monitoring program, radwaste issues, radiochemistry, and support for the company’s early site permitting and license renewal activities. Prior to Mike’s current position, he was a Supervisor of Environmental Affairs for Alabama Power Company.

A WEF member since 1983, Mike served as a two-time member of the WEF Executive Committee (now Board of Trustees) from 1997-1999 and on the Board of Directors (now House of Delegates) from 1994-1998. He has also been active on numerous Federation committees, including Government Affairs, Hazardous Waste, and Constitution & Bylaws where he served two-year terms as chair and vice-chair. Mike was also one of three WEF members on the review team for the creation of the joint venture for the Utility Leadership Center with (AWWA, AMWA, and AMSA) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In addition, he has been an active member of Alabama’s Water Environment Association (AWEA), serving as president, vice-president and secretary. He has also been chair of AWEA‘s Government Affairs, Long Range Planning, and Annual Conference Program committees.

A 1996 recipient of WEF's prestigious Arthur Sidney Bedell Award, Mike received a B.S. degree in civil engineering and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Alabama.
