Paul Freedman
  

Paul Freedman is the 2007-2008 Vice President of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international organization of water quality professionals headquartered in Alexandria, VA.

He is founder and President of LimnoTech, a national water science and engineering firm that since 1975, has been helping clients make decisions about their water issues. Paul has worked on hundreds of projects in over three dozen states for clients including federal agencies, municipalities and industries. His research and consulting have focused primarily on water quality including modeling; lake and watershed management; stream restoration; contaminated sediments and groundwater, wet weather issues including stormwater CSO and SSO; TMDL; permitting; sustainability; and many other environmental issues. 


A WEF member since 1980, Paul has made numerous contributions to WEF through committee membership and leadership. In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees, the House of Delegates and the Board of Directors, he has also been a member or served as Chair and/or Vice-Chair of several WEF committees, specialty conferences and task forces including the Watershed Management Committee, Government Affairs Committee, Long-Range Planning Committee and Sustainability Task Force. Also active on the local level, he is a past President of the Michigan Water Environment Association (MWEA) and has served on several MWEA committees.

In addition, Paul has taught, presented and lectured throughout the U.S. involving over 200 presentations and papers. He is recognized for his contributions to national policy development and has served on numerous professional and government task forces, committees, work groups and panels that have influenced professional and environmental issues, regulation and legislation.

Paul has received several WEF awards including the Charles Alvin Emerson Award (2002), Water Environment Federation Service Award (1996 and 1999) and the Arthur Sidney Bidell Award (1996). Additionally, he has received several MWEA awards including Outstanding Environmental Consultant (2004), Willard F. Shephard Award (2000), James R. Rumsey Award (1995), Environmental Service Award (1994) and numerous Service Recognition awards.

Paul is a licensed Professional Engineer in several states and a Board Certified Environmental Engineer of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. He received his Bachelors of Science Engineering and Masters of Water Resources-Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan.
